Focusing on consistency instead of perfection
You don't need more to do right now...you NEED CONSISTENCY!
If you've been here for a while, then you've probably already read my blog about 5 Money Moves to Build Better Money Habits and Finish the Year Strong.
Well, I want to let you know that this isn't that post. Granted if you are in a space where you can handle and manage multiple habits effectively, then by all means please go check out the above post to lock in on your efficiency! However, if you've noticed that you need to build your consistency muscle a little more, then you are in the right place.
The goal here is to make sure that you have a strong foundation to actually follow through on those habits that you put down in your money management plan that you've been working on, even when it's hard. That's consistency and that's where we are going......

Why staying consistent with money habits feels so hard
Staying consistent with your money habits seems simple. But life be lifin and throws things off all the time. I'm talking
Busy schedules.
Unexpected expenses.
Emotional spending.
Low energy....ugh, that's a huge one that I struggle with CONSTANTLY!!!
Now with all that going on, what might have started out as a solid plan slowly turns into inconsistency. Which then turns into avoidance. And then suddenly you're annoyed and feel like you need to start all over.
Don't feel bad because I have literally been in that cycle so many times and what I realized was that most of the time, I didn't need a new plan. I just needed a more realistic way to stay consistent.
So what does consistency actually look like over the next 30 days???
Let me make this simple. You don't need a perfect routine. And you don't need to fix everything.
What you need is a clear, realistic way to follow through on your plans.
So here is what I want you to focus on:
Step 1: Choose ONE money habit (and only ONE)
This is where most people (myself included) lose before they even start. You try to start:
Budgeting
Saving
Tracking
Investing
Paying off Debt
Don't get me wrong, all of these are necessary money management habits. But if you're trying to build consistency, you can't start trying to do all of these at the same time. It's too much and you'll frustrate yourself if/when you fall short of something. So since we are focusing on building consistency, for the next 30 days, just pick ONE thing of those areas above to focus on. Then, choose one habit that supports your goals and fits your real life right now in that financial. That habit could be:
Checking your account every morning
Tracking your spending (daily/weekly/monthly/etc.)
Having a weekly 10-minute money check-in
Pausing EVERY TIME before non-essential purchases
Putting aside a specific amount each month
👉🏾 Listen, if it feels to easy, that's a good thing because it means that habit works for you and is something you can keep up with!

Step 2: Define what "done" looks like for you
This is where people get inconsistent. They choose habits that are too vague. So instead of saying something like: "I'm going to be better with my money", be more specific and say "I will check my account balance every morning before I spend anything for the day."
See this difference between the two? The second one is Clear and Measurable.
👉🏾 If you don't define it, you won't follow through with it
Step 3: Make it easy to repeat (this is the real gem)
Consistency doesn't come from motivation. It comes from how easy it is to do the habit on a bad day. So ask yourself:
Can I do this when I'm tired?
Can I do this when I'm busy?
Can I do this when I don't feel like it?
👉🏾If the answer is no, then you need to shrink it. Make the habit so small and simple that you can do it even on your worst day.
Step 4: Track it (not perfectly....just honestly)
This is where tracking your habit comes into play. The goal her is not tracking to perfection. You're tracking to answer one question: "Did I show up today or not?" That's it. No overthinking. No guilt. Just awareness.
👉🏾 Remember, what gets tracked gets repeated. Download your Free Consistency Tracker below: ⬇️
Step 5: When you fall off...don't restart everything. Just return!
This part matters probably more than anything else. Because you WILL fall off in this process. And when you do, your brain will say:
"Since I messed up, I need to start all over next week."
When that happens, don't listen and do this instead:
Come back the next day. Do the habit once. Then KEEP GOING ➡️
👉🏾 Consistency isn't "never missing". It's about not staying gone when you do.
What you should expect after 30 days
Not perfection. Not a complete transformation. But something more important:
You'll trust yourself more
You'll feel more in control
You'll be more aware of your money
You'll know you can follow through. Even when it's hard
Now that is the foundation that you actually need to see some progress in your plan ahead.
